leadership team has extensive professional experience. Each of these professionals are leaders in their field and are committed to utilizing their expertise to advance areas within their professions that affect individuals with food allergy.

Anne F. Russell, MS, BSN, RN, AE-C
Director, Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Michigan Association


 
Anne F. Russell, MS, BSN, RN, AE-C has specialized in the field of food allergy for over 20 years after clinical and         administrative experience at University of MI Health System (UMHS) in pediatrics, neurosurgery, critical intensive care and   neonatology. She also served as President of Food Anaphyalxis Education which was an educational non-profit in MI. She   created and served in the role of Food Allergy Program Coordinator and Administrative Specialist at UMHS Division of     Allergy & Immunology while co-creating the Food Allergy Program. Additional clinical and administative experience includes serving as a food allergy nurse consultant/educator in a primary pediatric practice providing RN directed case management and patient education. She has served as a School Health Director coordinating and providing student health services for acute and chronic health conditions including individualized student health plans, related staff education and staff oversight. She is also board certified as an asthma educator by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board examination.


Anne F. Russell MS, BSN, RN, AE-C's food allergy/anaphylaxis research interests include advancing interdisciplinary clinic models to improve patient outcomes; staff and patient education; public health education; school and university anaphylaxis prevention and preparedness; and impact of behavior and social determinants of health on food allergy self-management skills. She has developed food allergy educational curriculum and provided presentations on food allergy management to numerous schools and at conferences for healthcare professionals. She has collaborated on food allergy related legislation and contributed to state and national teams of healthcare professionals on food allergy educational initiatives and research projects. Her clinical scope of practice in food allergy has included: initiation, creation and implementation of food allergy patient/staff education materials, clinic policies and conferences; coordination/monitoring of oral food challenges; patient assessment, care planning and evaluation of interventions; research; case management and patient/family food allergy education.

Anne F. Russell MS, BSN, RN, AE-C is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and serves on its Anaphylaxis Committee, Continuing Medical Education Committee, Adverse Reaction to Food Committee, and the Food Allergy and Epinephrine in Schools Workgroup. 
She is contributor and reviewer for the Anaphylaxis & Administration of Stock Epinephrine Tool Kit by the MI Association of School Nurses. She is contributor and reviewer for the Food Allergy Guidelines for MI Schools in collaboration with the MI Department of Education and MI Department of Community Health. She is a reviewer for Training Standards for the Administration of Epinephrine Auto-Injectors in collaboration with CA School Nurses Association and the MASN school nurse guidelines for school management of anaphylaxis. She is nursing faculty at Spring Arbor University and serves on the Nurse Practice Committee with the Michigan Center for Nursing. Her scholarly work includes serving as a member of the Executive Editorial Board for the Journal of Food Allergy as well as primary authorship of peer reviewed journal publications on food allergy daily management, clinical patient education and school food allergy management. She has also peer-reviewed food allergy/anaphylaxis and asthma related articles for the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. She is an expert food allergy contributor to AllergyHome.org, and food allergy/anaphylaxis writer for Association of Asthma Educators. Her Masters of Science is in a concentration of public health, health education and health promotion, with a graduate thesis on risk mitigation self-management behaviors of adolescents with IgE mediated food allergy and peer education on anaphylaxis prevention and preparedness.

Laura A. Edge, MA, Ed

  Laura A. Edge, MA, Ed has over 30 years experience in the field of education, both at the secondary and elementary
  level, in both private and public schools, and as classroom teacher and elementary principal. As a teacher she has worked
  with numerous students with medical needs and has been involved in teams coordinating their individualized health and
  education plans. As a school administrator, Mrs. Edge was instrumental in refining school wide emergency preparedness
  planning, coordinating staff continuing education and collaborating with the school health director to assist in risk
  management and safety assessment needs for students with food allergies and other health conditions. Over the course of
  her career, Mrs.Edge’s students have ranged in age from kindergarten age to adult.  Her dedication to hands-on, inquiry
  based, integrative learning, has earned her local and national recognition and she is the recipient of two Teacher of the Year
 
awards.

Laura A. Edge, MA, Ed has been a popular conference speaker, workshop leader, and educational consultant for the Historical Society of Michigan and the Michigan Council for the Social Studies. She has also developed history curricula for the Andover, Massachusetts Public Schools.  Mrs.Edge has been awarded several science education grants and has had numerous articles published in teaching periodicals.

Mary M. Huber, MS, BSN, RN has over two decades of professional experience as a school nurse from a large
  Michigan suburban school district.  She was instrumental in developing school accommodation programs for
  students with life threatening food allergies.The plans and tools she developed for the training of school staff in the
  prevention and emergency treatment of school age children were used throughout the state of MI and shared
  nationally and internationally. She served on the Board of Food Anaphylaxis Education, Inc., a Michigan nonprofit,
  and has been a featured speaker at programs and conferences for school personnel, school administrators, parent
  groups and medical personnel. She has published about clinical food allergy patient education and school food
  allergy management in the Journal of Asthma & Allergy Educators.


Mary M. Huber, MS, BSN, RN is the former director of an American Heart Association training site which provided education in CPR for individuals and groups.  She has professional experience working with students that have developmental disabilities and has also participated on interdisciplinary crisis teams as a member and educator.  She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of School Nurses.

Lisa Johnson, MA serves as academic advisor and internship coordinator for the Haab School of Business at Concordia                University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She earned her bachelor and master degrees from Eastern Michigan University in Education         and School Counseling. Mrs. Johnson is passionate about helping students achieve their academic, personal and career               goals by setting them up for success with an academic plan complete with meaningful internships. Her goal is to see each               student enter their chosen field with a career they love and are passionate about.Mrs. Johnson also has extensive academic             experience as an educator and school counselor at the middle school and high school levels.

  Lisa Johnson, MA has also served on the administrative team for a private school with students ranging from preschool age to high school. Mrs. Johnson's professional experience includes partnering on teams with school personnel, students and families to ensure necessary medical school accommodations are provided.  In her free time Mrs. Johnson enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two children.

Cindy Montag, BSN, RN

Cindy Montag, BSN, RN  has specialized in pediatrics for 37 years. Her professional experience began in the pediatric unit        at Hurley Medical Center, Flint, MI, for two years before working at the University of Michigan C.S.Mott Children's Hospital for       35 years. Her critical care experience includes both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care           Unit (PICU). In the NICU, she also served on the transport team and as a preceptor to new staff. In the PICU, she was a               charge nurse and preceptor to new staff. Her experience in ambulatory care nursing began in the Pediatric Walk-In                       clinic.This was an unscheduled, acute care clinic serving a patient population from newborn to age 18. The spectrum of               medical problems seen in this clinic ranged from minor complaints to major medical emergencies.

Cindy Montag, RN, BSN was a Clinical Care Coordinator in pediatric endocrinology for 11 years. Here she coordinated a statewide, grant-funded Newborn Screening Follow-Up program for endocrine disorders, in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Community Health. Endocrine newborn screening results and recommendations were provided to the parents and primary care healthcare providers for every child born in Michigan. Mrs. Montag's most recent role in ambulatory care nursing was with the Children's Intestinal Rehabilitation Program (ChIRP), an interdisciplinary collaborative program of physicians, nurses, dieticians, social workers and a PharmD for children with short gut syndrome. Mrs. Montag worked closely with the parents and home care and school nurses to meet the many needs of these children including provision of patient/family education.

Cindy Montag, RN, BSN has administrative experience as both an Assistant Head Nurse in pediatric ambulatory nursing and as a Clinical Nurse Supervisor in the pediatric intensive care unit. She has planned and moderated a conference for parents of children with congenital hypothyroidism annually. She has also served on various committees in C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Mrs. Montag is a published co-author of journal articles pertaining to neonatology issues. She has also been a speaker at various pediatric conferences.
